Prior to the creation of R.D. Specialties, founder Richard D. Krasucki worked with Charles Mayer the namesake of "Mayer rods." The terms coating rod, Mayer rod, and metering rod are interchangeable. The term coating rod covers wire wound, gapped, formed and smooth rods. Our founder gained first-hand knowledge from working with Charles Mayer; this experience is the foundation for our company. RDS's fledgling business began in Krasucki's attic in 1936. As the popularity of these rods developed, the business grew. Soon RDS expanded its business to sell across the entire country. In 1976, Richard's son, Douglas, took over as CEO of R.D. Specialties. In 1999, RDS acquired with long-time competitor, H&W Metering Bar Company, combining their operations at the Webster, NY location. Today, RDS supplies markets worldwide. With almost seven decades of experience comes an incredible working knowledge of the converting industry. We've expanded our facility to better serve our customers, which include some of the largest names in the paper industry. We can create stock for large repeating orders so there is little lead time necessary. We have increased the capacity of our state-of-the-art plating facility, effectively doubling our plated rod output. At RDS customer satisfaction will always remain our biggest concern.
